Alguns desses animais s\u00e3o mais bem estudados, dado o maior apelo conservacionista e interesse pela sociedade, destacando-se os felinos e os primatas. A car\u00eancia de informa\u00e7\u00f5es b\u00e1sicas sobre pequenos roedores e morcegos, por exemplo, \u00e9 enorme.\u00a0<\/span>Apesar da alta diversidade de esp\u00e9cies de pequenos mam\u00edferos, como roedores e morcegos, o fato de serem considerados menos carism\u00e1ticos e menos conhecidos resulta em dificuldades na obten\u00e7\u00e3o de recursos financeiros para estudos. O que implica tamb\u00e9m em entraves no avan\u00e7o do conhecimento e da populariza\u00e7\u00e3o de pequenos mam\u00edferos para a sociedade. Contudo, mostramos aqui que esp\u00e9cies de pequenos roedores t\u00eam muito a \u201cnos contar\u201d sobre a hist\u00f3ria da Amaz\u00f4nia e sua bacia hidrogr\u00e1fica. Essas informa\u00e7\u00f5es podem servir como base para pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas que visem \u00e0 conserva\u00e7\u00e3o de nossa biodiversidade e seu uso racional pelas gera\u00e7\u00f5es de hoje e pelas futuras gera\u00e7\u00f5es de brasileiros e brasileiras.<\/p><blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Aqui apresentamos um pequeno roedor sul-americano conhecido popularmente como rato-de-espinho<\/span><span style=\"color: #003300;\">. <\/span><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Esse nome tem rela\u00e7\u00e3o com a presen\u00e7a de pelos modificados no seu corpo, lembrando \u201cespinhos\u201d devido \u00e0 rigidez, textura e largura.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Ratos-de-espinho \u00e9 como s\u00e3o chamados os roedores da fam\u00edlia Echimyidae. Nossa pesquisa foi focada em ratos-de-espinho que pertencem ao g\u00eanero <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversity4all.org\/taxa\/43998-Makalata\/browse_photos\"><i>Makalata<\/i><\/a><\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e est\u00e3o <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">amplamente distribu\u00eddos pela Amaz\u00f4nia. Apesar de sabermos pouco sobre a ecologia desses roedores, aparentemente eles s\u00e3o associados a ambientes alag\u00e1veis ou rip\u00e1rios (vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o da beira de cursos d\u2019\u00e1gua), alimentam-se principalmente de frutos e brotos, e podem apresentar boa capacidade de nado, apesar de n\u00e3o possu\u00edrem adapta\u00e7\u00f5es morfol\u00f3gicas evidentes para isso.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Em nossa pesquisa, investigamos as rela\u00e7\u00f5es de parentesco de ratos-de-espinho\u00a0que foram encontrados em diferentes regi\u00f5es da Am\u00e9rica do Sul<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Para investigar as rela\u00e7\u00f5es de parentesco de esp\u00e9cies, cientistas geralmente utilizam dados gen\u00e9ticos, ou seja, de DNA, os quais s\u00e3o usados para gerar <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brasilescola.uol.com.br\/biologia\/filogenia-que-isto.htm#:~:text=As%20%C3%A1rvores%20filogen%C3%A9ticas%20nada%20mais,hist%C3%B3ria%20mais%20recente%20daquele%20t%C3%A1xon.\">\u00e1rvores filogen\u00e9ticas<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Quando dados f\u00f3sseis s\u00e3o inclu\u00eddos nas \u00e1rvores filogen\u00e9ticas, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel estimar a data em que as esp\u00e9cies, popula\u00e7\u00f5es e\/ou indiv\u00edduos surgiram. Essa an\u00e1lise \u00e9 chamada de <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/edisciplinas.usp.br\/mod\/resource\/view.php?id=2285460\">data\u00e7\u00e3o molecular<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p><blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O resultado da \u00e1rvore filogen\u00e9tica, combinada com data\u00e7\u00e3o molecular e dados de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o geogr\u00e1fica, mostrou que os roedores do g\u00eanero <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makalata <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">teriam surgido por volta de 9 milh\u00f5es de anos atr\u00e1s (durante o per\u00edodo geol\u00f3gico denominado <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mioceno#:~:text=Mioceno%20ou%20Mioc%C3%A9nico%20%C3%A9%20a,marinhos%20modernos%20que%20o%20Plioceno.\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mioceno<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) na regi\u00e3o do Escudo das Guianas, ao norte do Rio Amazonas. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De acordo com o conhecimento geol\u00f3gico da evolu\u00e7\u00e3o da Bacia Amaz\u00f4nica, o Escudo das Guianas (localizado ao norte dessa bacia) e o Escudo Brasileiro (ao sul) s\u00e3o \u00e1reas antigas e est\u00e1veis. Ao passo que o Oeste Amaz\u00f4nico e a Amaz\u00f4nia Central tendem a apresentar uma hist\u00f3ria mais recente, onde existiu o <strong>Lago Pebas<\/strong> pr\u00f3ximo aos Andes e, posteriormente, o <strong>Sistema Acre<\/strong> (\u00e0 \u00e9poca do surgimento do g\u00eanero <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makalata<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). O sistema Acre foi um sistema p\u00e2ntano-fluvial (uma mistura de \u00e1reas alagadas e rios) que originou a Bacia Amaz\u00f4nica, ap\u00f3s o desaparecimento da \u00e1rea alagada com influ\u00eancia marinha conhecida como Lago Pebas. Al\u00e9m disso, h\u00e1 uma mistura de grupos evolutivos de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makalata<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mais antigos e mais recentes que ali teriam se estabelecido por v\u00e1rios mecanismos.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atrav\u00e9s de uma \u00e1rvore filogen\u00e9tica datada e de dados sobre as \u00e1reas de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o atuais dos indiv\u00edduos de uma esp\u00e9cie, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel estimar as \u00e1reas que seus ancestrais foram ocupando. Esse tipo de an\u00e1lise \u00e9 conhecida como an\u00e1lise biogeogr\u00e1fica. A <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/brasilescola.uol.com.br\/biologia\/biogeografia.htm\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">biogeografia<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00e9 a ci\u00eancia que estuda o padr\u00e3o de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de organismos na Terra e as varia\u00e7\u00f5es nesse padr\u00e3o ao longo do tempo.\u00a0<\/span>Em estudos da \u00e1rea de biogeografia, frequentemente buscamos entender onde e quando determinada esp\u00e9cie teria surgido na hist\u00f3ria evolutiva.\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N\u00f3s investigamos a biogeografia desse g\u00eanero de ratos-de-espinho reconstruindo as \u00e1reas de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o ancestrais e os eventos que originaram novos clados. <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/clado\">Clados<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> s\u00e3o grupos de indiv\u00edduos, popula\u00e7\u00f5es ou esp\u00e9cies que compartilham um ancestral comum. O surgimento de novas esp\u00e9cies ou clados pode ocorrer por eventos de dispers\u00e3o e\/ou eventos de vicari\u00e2ncia. Eventos de <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dispers%C3%A3o_biol%C3%B3gica\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">dispers\u00e3o<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> s\u00e3o o conjunto de processos que possibilitam o estabelecimento de indiv\u00edduos de uma esp\u00e9cie num local diferente daquele onde viviam os seus progenitores. Ao passo que <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vicari%C3%A2ncia\">vicari\u00e2ncia<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00e9 o mecanismo evolutivo no qual uma \u00e1rea se fragmenta, pelo surgimento de uma barreira f\u00edsica que separa as popula\u00e7\u00f5es de uma esp\u00e9cie, podendo levar ao surgimento de novas esp\u00e9cies.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Os resultados do nosso estudo revelaram que a origem desses roedores provavelmente ocorreu por dispers\u00e3o do leste da Amaz\u00f4nia para o Escudo das Guianas no per\u00edodo de forma\u00e7\u00e3o da Bacia Amaz\u00f4nica (durante o Sistema Acre) h\u00e1 cerca de 9 milh\u00f5es de anos atr\u00e1s. Posteriormente, surgiram dois grandes clados, os quais denominamos clado leste e clado oeste. Quando sabemos a hist\u00f3ria de uma regi\u00e3o, podemos entender melhor o presente e ter a possibilidade de antever potenciais solu\u00e7\u00f5es para o futuro. H\u00e1 tempos que cientistas alertam sobre o potencial negativo da a\u00e7\u00e3o humana no curso evolutivo de in\u00fameras esp\u00e9cies, sem mencionar a crise clim\u00e1tica que tem dizimado popula\u00e7\u00f5es da fauna e flora mesmo antes de conseguirmos conhec\u00ea-las em profundidade. A trajet\u00f3ria deste g\u00eanero de ratos-de-espinho representa uma pe\u00e7a importante no quebra-cabe\u00e7a da hist\u00f3ria evolutiva da Amaz\u00f4nia, sobretudo por habitarem ambientes alag\u00e1veis, os quais ainda sabemos muito pouco.
