Interessante \u00e9 que, independente da interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, o <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ox%C3%ADmoro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>oximoro<\/strong><\/a> (combina\u00e7\u00e3o de palavras com significados opostos) utilizado como recurso po\u00e9tico no t\u00edtulo desta can\u00e7\u00e3o, coloca o \u201csom do sil\u00eancio\u201d como uma representa\u00e7\u00e3o da dificuldade na comunica\u00e7\u00e3o, entre pessoas, entre mundos&#8230; N\u00f3s, ec\u00f3logos subterr\u00e2neos, que buscamos compreender mundos distintos desde nossa perspectiva de primatas diurnos, fiados no sentido da vis\u00e3o, nos vemos \u00e0s vezes presos no mesmo dilema deste recurso po\u00e9tico.<\/p><p>J\u00e1 vimos aqui no Blog Conex\u00f5es Amaz\u00f4nicas que os <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/ciencia-aplicada-e-a-biodiversidade-subterranea-na-amazonia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ecossistemas subterr\u00e2neos podem ser definidos por gradientes ambientais bem marcados<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, como a aus\u00eancia de luz e a baixa disponibilidade de energia. Condi\u00e7\u00f5es severas que definem a vida e suas estrat\u00e9gias de sobreviv\u00eancias nestes ambientes, especialmente para as esp\u00e9cies de invertebrados que somente neles sobrevivem. Hoje vamos focar em outro grupo de organismos caracter\u00edsticos destes ecossistemas.<\/p><p>Morcegos s\u00e3o animais noturnos fascinantes, mam\u00edferos como n\u00f3s, s\u00e3o os \u00fanicos verdadeiramente capazes de voar. Quando emergem das cavernas em seus voos noturnos, morcegos de h\u00e1bito inset\u00edvoro podem se alimentar de milhares de invertebrados em uma s\u00f3 noite, incluindo no card\u00e1pio insetos considerados pragas agr\u00edcolas e outros que s\u00e3o vetores de doen\u00e7as. De maneira similar, o voo de morcegos que comem frutos pode representar a dispers\u00e3o das suas sementes, um verdadeiro jardineiro de novas florestas, enquanto aqueles que se alimentam de n\u00e9ctar, polinizam flores de algumas plantas que amamos como banana, pequi e <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Agave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>agave<\/strong><\/a> (a planta da tequila). Quando retornam a seus abrigos cavern\u00edcolas, os morcegos que l\u00e1 se abrigam cumprem uma fun\u00e7\u00e3o essencial para a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade subterr\u00e2nea. Grandes col\u00f4nias produzem quantidades expressivas de mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica (fezes conhecidas como <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>guano<\/strong><\/a>), que sustentam uma complexa cadeia alimentar, fornecendo energia para a fauna cavern\u00edcola de invertebrados, fungos e at\u00e9 outros vertebrados (sapos, roedores).<\/p><p>E n\u00e3o se enganem com as cren\u00e7as populares sobre a noite, pois morcegos podem ver e muito bem! Mas para lidar com tantas atividades, voando, ainda por cima na escurid\u00e3o, estes animais contam com outra fant\u00e1stica inova\u00e7\u00e3o evolutiva.<\/p><blockquote><p><strong>Para se localizarem no espa\u00e7o e ca\u00e7ar, morcegos se orientam atrav\u00e9s de um sistema de emiss\u00e3o e recep\u00e7\u00e3o de sons chamado <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographicbrasil.com\/animais\/2021\/02\/veja-como-funciona-a-ecolocalizacao-o-sonar-inerente-da-natureza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ecolocaliza\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a><\/span>, biossonar ou localiza\u00e7\u00e3o pelo eco.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51f74ede elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"51f74ede\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-35870cd0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"35870cd0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>M\u00fasculos especialmente adaptados na laringe de morcegos produzem sons que s\u00e3o emitidos pela boca ou nariz e, a partir dos ecos que recebem de volta, conseguem detectar \u00e1rvores no caminho, outros morcegos, abrigos e at\u00e9 presas, como um <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0003347286801105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">besouro pequeno a uma dist\u00e2ncia de 18 metros<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. Para que estes sonares biol\u00f3gicos funcionem com tamanha precis\u00e3o, os sons emitidos pelos morcegos precisam ser em alta frequ\u00eancia, t\u00e3o alta que a maioria dos chamados emitidos s\u00e3o \u201cultrass\u00f4nicos\u201d, ou seja, est\u00e3o acima do limite aud\u00edvel para n\u00f3s humanos (ou seja, acima de 20.000 Hz). Assim, mesmo que algumas esp\u00e9cies literalmente gritem ao emitir os sons de ecolocaliza\u00e7\u00e3o pela noite (e algumas realmente o fazem!), n\u00f3s primatas n\u00e3o estaremos ouvindo nada.<\/p><p>Quando precisamos analisar os sons emitidos por animais, utilizamos programas espec\u00edficos que nos permitem \u201cver o som\u201d. Mostramos na figura abaixo duas vari\u00e1veis bastante comuns em nossas an\u00e1lises para identificar esp\u00e9cies de morcegos: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com.br\/br\/939559\/o-que-sao-decibeis-e-como-eles-influenciam-na-arquitetura-e-nossa-vida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>amplitude do som<\/strong><\/a><\/span> pelo tempo medido em decib\u00e9is (dB) e <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eauriz.com.br\/frequencias-sonoras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">frequ\u00eancia do som<\/span><\/strong><\/a> ao longo do tempo medido em Hertz\u00a0(Hz). De modo geral, n\u00f3s humanos nos sentimos confort\u00e1veis com sons de amplitude de at\u00e9 60 dB e somos capazes de perceber sons de frequ\u00eancias entre 20 Hz e 20.000 Hz.<\/p><p>Aqui no Brasil, todas as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbeq.net\/lista-de-especies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">181 esp\u00e9cies de morcegos<\/span><\/strong><\/a> ecolocalizam e a grande maioria dos sons emitidos por eles s\u00e3o ultrass\u00f4nicos. Os sons emitidos por morcegos s\u00e3o denominados de <strong>chamados<\/strong>, que \u00e9 um termo traduzido da palavra em ingl\u00eas <em>call<\/em>. Algumas esp\u00e9cies de morcegos que se alimentam de insetos (inset\u00edvoras) e que possuem uma ecolocaliza\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00e3o complexa e com \u201couvido t\u00e3o afiado\u201d que s\u00e3o capazes de perceber e evitar as armadilhas. Por outro lado, essa mesma complexidade em seus chamados sonoros possibilita o uso eficiente da <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bioac%C3%BAstica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>bioac\u00fastica<\/strong><\/a><\/span> (\u00e1rea da ci\u00eancia que\u00a0estuda\u00a0os sons da natureza) na identifica\u00e7\u00e3o das esp\u00e9cies, baseando-se apenas nas caracter\u00edsticas \u00fanicas de seus sons.<\/p><p>Apesar de ser uma tecnologia que vem se popularizando, a bioac\u00fastica ainda \u00e9 um m\u00e9todo de amostragem pouco utilizado em estudos com morcegos na Amaz\u00f4nia. Das 54 localidades levantadas em um recente <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3161\/15081109ACC2021.23.2.017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>estudo de revis\u00e3o<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, apenas em cinco delas foram feitos invent\u00e1rios de morcegos com uso de gravadores de ultrassom. Esta discrep\u00e2ncia metodol\u00f3gica certamente atrapalha o entendimento do n\u00famero real de esp\u00e9cies de morcegos na Amaz\u00f4nia. Uma das raz\u00f5es para n\u00e3o termos mais estudos de bioac\u00fastica em invent\u00e1rios de morcegos certamente est\u00e1 ligada ao elevado custo dos equipamentos necess\u00e1rios, mas, principalmente, pela dificuldade de acesso a grava\u00e7\u00f5es de refer\u00eancia para auxiliar estes estudos. As <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/ciencia-aplicada-e-a-biodiversidade-subterranea-na-amazonia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cavidades ferruginosas da Floresta Nacional de Caraj\u00e1s<\/a><\/u><\/strong> (FLONA de Caraj\u00e1s) s\u00e3o particularmente <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/icmbio\/pt-br\/centrais-de-conteudo\/publicacoes\/relatorios\/Carajas.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">especiais por abrigarem grandes popula\u00e7\u00f5es de morcegos<\/a><\/u><\/strong>. Esp\u00e9cies raras de morcegos, como <em>Furipterus horrens<\/em> and <em>Natalus macrourus<\/em>, s\u00e3o frequentemente encontradas nas cavidades da FLONA de Caraj\u00e1s. S\u00e3o esp\u00e9cies apontadas como vulner\u00e1veis ao risco de extin\u00e7\u00e3o devido ao grande desafio de balancear a atividade de minera\u00e7\u00e3o de ferro com a preserva\u00e7\u00e3o dos ecossistemas desta Unidade de Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o. Nesse sentido, os ecossistemas em que estas esp\u00e9cies s\u00e3o encontradas (os ecossistemas subterr\u00e2neos) s\u00e3o considerados como priorit\u00e1rios em estudos cujo objetivo \u00e9 servir de modelo para um processo de licenciamento ambiental eficiente.<\/p><p>Com este objetivo em mente, o <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.org\/itv-desenvolvimento-sustentavel\/grupos-de-pesquisa-e-parcerias\/#Biodiversidade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grupo de pesquisa em morcegos do ITV<\/a><\/u><\/strong> vem buscando refinar as informa\u00e7\u00f5es dispon\u00edveis sobre estes animais na regi\u00e3o de Caraj\u00e1s, focando principalmente no amplo uso de t\u00e9cnicas de bioac\u00fastica, in\u00e9ditas no licenciamento ambiental da regi\u00e3o. Ao longo do \u00faltimo ano, al\u00e9m do monitoramento ac\u00fastico das cavernas em si, buscamos entender aspectos que dificultam a populariza\u00e7\u00e3o deste m\u00e9todo, seja encontrando a melhor forma de utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o dos equipamentos em campo, seja desenvolvendo ferramentas que auxiliem nos invent\u00e1rios de esp\u00e9cies de morcegos.
