Nas esta\u00e7\u00f5es de cheia, o rio depositava uma enorme quantidade de sedimentos nas \u00e1reas inund\u00e1veis, formando assim a regi\u00e3o do Crescente F\u00e9rtil e permitindo o estabelecimento da agricultura nesta civiliza\u00e7\u00e3o. Por\u00e9m, um fato que nunca vemos citado nos livros \u00e9 a import\u00e2ncia dos micro-organismos para a ciclagem da mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica e libera\u00e7\u00e3o dos nutrientes nessas \u00e1reas. \u00c9 fascinante imaginar o quanto esses seres t\u00e3o pequenos foram essenciais para o desenvolvimento de uma civiliza\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00e3o importante para a hist\u00f3ria da humanidade.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pensando em uma escala global, os micro-organismos t\u00eam um papel fundamental para a ciclagem de nutrientes essenciais para a vida na Terra<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(por exemplo, carbono, nitrog\u00eanio, f\u00f3sforo, enxofre, oxig\u00eanio, etc.), possibilitando assim a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o da vida como a conhecemos. Muitos micro-organismos tamb\u00e9m participam ativamente do equil\u00edbrio dos gases de efeito estufa na atmosfera, como o <strong>g\u00e1s carb\u00f4nico<\/strong> (CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) e o <strong>metano<\/strong> (CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, possuindo um poder de aquecimento at\u00e9 25 vezes maior que o CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), sendo que a produ\u00e7\u00e3o e\/ou consumo desses gases \u00e9 parte essencial do metabolismo desses micro-organismos. Pensando em compreender essa din\u00e2mica, nosso grupo de pesquisa do Centro de Energia Nuclear na Agricultura (CENA\/USP) buscou investigar a microbiota de outra regi\u00e3o inund\u00e1vel muito importante para o planeta, a Bacia Amaz\u00f4nica, que possui um papel imensur\u00e1vel para o desenvolvimento de toda a regi\u00e3o, seja social, econ\u00f4mica e ambiental. Isso acontece devido ao ambiente anaer\u00f3bico (aus\u00eancia de oxig\u00eanio) estabelecido em \u00e1reas alagadas, condi\u00e7\u00e3o ideal para o metabolismo microbiano metanog\u00eanico (ou seja, produ\u00e7\u00e3o de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Por outro lado, o metabolismo microbiano metanotr\u00f3fico (isto \u00e9, associado ao consumo de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) pode ocorrer tanto na presen\u00e7a quanto na aus\u00eancia de oxig\u00eanio. Ambos os processos fazem parte da ciclagem da mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica dos sedimentos dos rios e s\u00e3o dependentes das condi\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais. Neste contexto, um trabalho recente <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s43247-021-00314-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">publicado pela cientista Dra. Luana Basso<\/span><\/a><\/strong> mostrou que a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de CH\u2084 varia consideravelmente ao longo da Bacia Amaz\u00f4nica.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considerando que o equil\u00edbrio de ambos os processos de metanog\u00eanese e metanotrofia resultam nos fluxos finais de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0para a atmosfera, evidenciamos a import\u00e2ncia de se estudar os micro-organismos e suas capacidades metab\u00f3licas. Portanto, o trabalho do nosso grupo de pesquisa <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/mec.15912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicado na revista Molecular Ecology<\/a><\/strong><\/span> descreveu a diversidade de micro-organismos metanog\u00eanicos e metanotr\u00f3ficos em \u00e1reas inund\u00e1veis da regi\u00e3o de Santar\u00e9m e Belterra, no estado do Par\u00e1. Neste trabalho, n\u00f3s estudamos os micro-organismos das amostras de sedimentos de \u00e1reas localizadas nos rios Tapaj\u00f3s e Amazonas, investigando amostras de DNA coletadas nesses locais e buscando pistas de suas identidades. N\u00f3s verificamos que a diversidade desses grupos microbianos est\u00e1 diretamente relacionada com a composi\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica dos sedimentos. Al\u00e9m da alta diversidade de produtores de CH\u2084 j\u00e1 esperada para as \u00e1reas inund\u00e1veis, tamb\u00e9m identificamos uma alta diversidade de consumidores de CH4 que utilizam diferentes estrat\u00e9gias metab\u00f3licas para oxidar CH4. Tamb\u00e9m exploramos o potencial gen\u00f4mico de uma bact\u00e9ria metanotr\u00f3fica muito abundante nas \u00e1reas inund\u00e1veis da Amaz\u00f4nia, a <i>Methylocystis<\/i> sp., e os resultados foram <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2076-2607\/10\/9\/1747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicados recentemente na revista Microorganisms<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Foto: Ana Vit\u00f3ria Reina.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ce3c66a elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"4ce3c66a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b05e70d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b05e70d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote><p>Segundo o <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPCC<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, diante de um cen\u00e1rio de mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, com previs\u00f5es alarmantes de altera\u00e7\u00e3o nos padr\u00f5es de chuva e de um aumento de temperatura de 2\u00baC na regi\u00e3o amaz\u00f4nica, estima-se que as emiss\u00f5es de CH\u2084<strong>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/2017RG000559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aumentem ainda mais<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c9 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">importante pensar que o efeito estufa pode estimular as emiss\u00f5es de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e que o aumento do CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0na atmosfera estimula o efeito estufa.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portanto, mais do que conhecer as fontes de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u00e9 fundamental compreender os micro-organismos consumidores deste g\u00e1s, que ser\u00e3o, potencialmente, um dos principais respons\u00e1veis por mitigar os efeitos causados pelo aumento de temperatura nas emiss\u00f5es naturais de CH\u2084<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0na regi\u00e3o Amaz\u00f4nica.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">E o que esperar para o futuro? Seja pela possibilidade do estabelecimento da agricultura numa \u00e1rea des\u00e9rtica, ou pela mitiga\u00e7\u00e3o dos efeitos das mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, o entendimento do papel dos micro-organismos no ambiente ainda \u00e9 incipiente. Gra\u00e7as \u00e0s inova\u00e7\u00f5es tecnol\u00f3gicas de an\u00e1lises de DNA, a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o da microbiota est\u00e1 cada vez mais acess\u00edvel, possibilitando, dia ap\u00f3s dia, ultrapassar a fronteira do conhecimento em microbiologia.
