Este ecossistema se estende por nove pa\u00edses diferentes, desde o sop\u00e9 do leste dos Andes at\u00e9 as costas atl\u00e2nticas da Am\u00e9rica do Sul. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chuvas abundantes geram uma grande vaz\u00e3o (volume de \u00e1gua que passa por um local em um determinado per\u00edodo de tempo) no rio Amazonas, que corresponde a quase 15% das \u00e1guas de rios de \u00e1gua doce que chegam aos oceanos.<\/span> Os ventos anteriormente transportavam parte de toda essa \u00e1gua do Oceano Atl\u00e2ntico. Quase um ter\u00e7o das chuvas que caem na bacia foram extra\u00eddas do pr\u00f3prio solo amaz\u00f4nico, atrav\u00e9s das longas ra\u00edzes (at\u00e9 10 metros de profundidade) das \u00e1rvores da floresta tropical, e ent\u00e3o liberadas no ar atrav\u00e9s de suas folhas. Pensemos, por exemplo, na a\u00e7\u00e3o da substitui\u00e7\u00e3o da floresta por pastos. Os pastos possuem ra\u00edzes mais curtas em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com as \u00e1rvores. Por esta raz\u00e3o, sua capacidade de bombear \u00e1gua do solo e liber\u00e1-la para a atmosfera \u00e9 limitada <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/a-paisagem-e-a-hidrologia-de-uma-bacia-no-arco-do-desmatamento\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leia mais sobre o impacto da perda de floresta natural<\/a><\/strong><\/span>). Pode-se esperar que a substitui\u00e7\u00e3o de florestas naturais por pastagens implique em menor umidade na atmosfera da regi\u00e3o amaz\u00f4nica e, consequentemente, redu\u00e7\u00e3o da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o. Na verdade, a mudan\u00e7a de um peda\u00e7o de floresta intacta com pastagens altera muito mais do que apenas a capacidade evaporativa da superf\u00edcie. Muitas outras caracter\u00edsticas de superf\u00edcie que podem influenciar direta ou indiretamente a precipita\u00e7\u00e3o na regi\u00e3o s\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m perturbadas. Mais um exemplo \u00e9 que quando a \u00e1rea florestal \u00e9 desmatada, a rugosidade da superf\u00edcie diminui, porque as florestas s\u00e3o mais altas e t\u00eam uma altura mais vari\u00e1vel do que as pastagens.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Consequentemente, o ar que se move acima desta \u00e1rea experimenta menos resist\u00eancia e acelera, transportando toda a umidade para diferentes locais. Isso causa uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o na \u00e1rea desmatada, mas um aumento da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o em lugares ao redor. Embora o desmatamento leve a um esgotamento da chuva local sobre a \u00e1rea desmatada nestes dois exemplos, esta n\u00e3o \u00e9 a \u00fanica possibilidade. Alguns processos induzidos pela perda de floresta podem aumentar a precipita\u00e7\u00e3o. Por exemplo, suponhamos que gostar\u00edamos de saber o que poderia acontecer com a capacidade das \u00e1rvores da floresta tropical de extrair \u00e1gua do solo e liber\u00e1-la para a atmosfera sob um clima mais quente. Nesse caso, poder\u00edamos realizar alguns experimentos (isolando algumas parcelas de \u00e1rvores e mudando apenas a temperatura do ar) e fazer algumas medi\u00e7\u00f5es das taxas de evapora\u00e7\u00e3o. No entanto, algumas quest\u00f5es n\u00e3o podem ser abordadas a partir de experimenta\u00e7\u00e3o real. Uma dessas quest\u00f5es \u00e9 o que pode acontecer com o clima se a floresta amaz\u00f4nica for substitu\u00edda por pastagens ou terras cultivadas. Simplesmente, \u00e9 imposs\u00edvel desmatar uma parte da Amaz\u00f4nia para descobrir o que acontece com o clima regional sem perder a abordagem preventiva impl\u00edcita na pr\u00f3pria pergunta. Nesses casos, os cientistas <a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/bacia-do-rio-purus-vista-do-espaco-e-modelada-na-terra\/\">usam modelos <\/a>para realizar experimentos indiretos. Um modelo computacional representa uma parte do mundo de forma simplificada, geralmente expressa em linguagem matem\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>A <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s00382-021-06025-y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trabalho recente<\/a><\/strong><\/span> utilizou um desses modelos para avaliar o impacto do desmatamento na conectividade hidroclim\u00e1tica Amaz\u00f4nia-Andes (ver figura abaixo).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Os autores tentaram entender como o desmatamento em grande escala (uma simula\u00e7\u00e3o onde 45% da floresta foi desmatada) poderia afetar o clima regional durante a esta\u00e7\u00e3o \u00famida da Amaz\u00f4nia, entre dezembro e fevereiro. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Constatou-se que uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o de at\u00e9 20% da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o seria\u00a0 induzida pela perda de floresta na maioria das plan\u00edcies amaz\u00f4nicas durante o dia. No entanto, os impactos significativos estariam localizados na parte sudoeste da bacia, na \u00e1rea de transi\u00e7\u00e3o das plan\u00edcies amaz\u00f4nicas para os Andes tropicais. Nesta regi\u00e3o, devido a uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o no transporte de umidade, a precipita\u00e7\u00e3o noturna seria\u00a0 reduzida entre 20-30%.
