Em m\u00e9dia, chove cerca de 1800 mm\/ano na bacia, mas apenas 5% desse valor concentra-se no per\u00edodo seco (entre junho-setembro), indicando a sazonalidade marcante da bacia. A vaz\u00e3o m\u00e9dia do rio, no <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Exut%C3%B3rio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exut\u00f3rio<\/a><\/strong><\/span> da bacia (isto \u00e9, o volume de \u00e1gua que passa em um determinado intervalo de tempo), \u00e9 de cerca de 900 m\u00b3\/s, com extremos variando de 50 m\u00b3\/s (entre junho-setembro) at\u00e9 4 mil m\u00b3\/s (entre janeiro-abril). A bacia possui relev\u00e2ncia econ\u00f4mica na regi\u00e3o Norte (seus munic\u00edpios geram cerca de R$ 36 bi de PIB). Na esfera ambiental, o desmatamento impacta a conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade, aumenta a eros\u00e3o e piora a qualidade do solo e libera carbono para a atmosfera. Com rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao ciclo da \u00e1gua, o desmatamento aumenta a temperatura local, reduz a parcela da chuva interceptada pelas \u00e1rvores e as taxas de <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brasilescola.uol.com.br\/biologia\/evapotranspiracao.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>evapotranspira\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e pode causar a redu\u00e7\u00e3o da taxa de infiltra\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1gua no solo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mas de forma quantitativa, como os processos hidrol\u00f3gicos variaram ao longo dos anos na bacia hidrogr\u00e1fica do Rio Itacai\u00fanas? Essa pergunta foi respondida em tr\u00eas investiga\u00e7\u00f5es realizadas por pesquisadores do Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico Vale <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #003300;\"><strong>ITV<\/strong><\/span>).<\/a> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1029\/2019WR025083\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Na primeira<\/a><\/strong><\/span>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> realizada com dados de 1973 at\u00e9 2016, os pesquisadores utilizaram t\u00e9cnicas de <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Balan%C3%A7o_h%C3%ADdrico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">water balance<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> para entender como a \u00e1gua se distribui no ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico, isto \u00e9, como se d\u00e1 o comportamento da chuva, evapotranspira\u00e7\u00e3o, vaz\u00e3o e armazenamento de \u00e1gua no solo (<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/vamos-quantificar-o-ciclo-da-agua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see here<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outro texto no Blog do Conex\u00f5es Amaz\u00f4nicas sobre aplica\u00e7\u00e3o da t\u00e9cnica de balan\u00e7o h\u00eddrico com dados de sat\u00e9lite). Foram aplicados tr\u00eas m\u00e9todos para entender se a mudan\u00e7a nas vaz\u00f5es dos rios foi devido ao desmatamento ou \u00e0 variabilidade clim\u00e1tica. <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.jenvman.2019.01.090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Na segunda pesquisa<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, foi utilizada <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Modela%C3%A7%C3%A3o_hidrol%C3%B3gica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">modelagem hidrol\u00f3gica <\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(isto \u00e9, simula\u00e7\u00e3o dos processos do ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico com equa\u00e7\u00f5es matem\u00e1ticas; veja mais <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/conexoesamazonicas.org\/en\/bacia-do-rio-purus-vista-do-espaco-e-modelada-na-terra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nesta outra postagem<\/a><\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">em nosso Blog) para compreender a hidrologia da bacia diante de tr\u00eas cen\u00e1rios de uso e ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o da terra: preservado (uso do solo igual ao de 1984), presente (uso do solo de 2013) e desmatado (situa\u00e7\u00e3o hipot\u00e9tica onde as \u00e1reas de preserva\u00e7\u00e3o estariam desmatadas). <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1002\/joc.6380\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A terceira pesquisa <\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analisa a import\u00e2ncia do armazenamento de \u00e1gua do solo e da temperatura nos oceanos nos processos hidrol\u00f3gicos da bacia.<\/span><\/p><blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Quais resultados encontramos? Os estudos indicam o aumento das vaz\u00f5es m\u00e9dias, m\u00e1ximas e m\u00ednimas da bacia com o desmatamento.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Durante o intenso processo de desmatamento na bacia n\u00e3o foi identificada mudan\u00e7a significativa na precipita\u00e7\u00e3o e na evapotranspira\u00e7\u00e3o m\u00e9dia anual. Com rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 vaz\u00e3o m\u00e9dia na bacia, a variabilidade clim\u00e1tica analisada de forma isolada ocasionaria uma leve redu\u00e7\u00e3o na vaz\u00e3o. Al\u00e9m disso, nota-se tamb\u00e9m os menores valores de escoamento superficial nesta \u00e1rea. Ambos os resultados mostram o papel da floresta na regula\u00e7\u00e3o clim\u00e1tica e na gera\u00e7\u00e3o de <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Escorr%C3%AAncia_superficial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">escoamento superficial<\/a><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al\u00e9m disso, as simula\u00e7\u00f5es realizadas com os cen\u00e1rios de uso e ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o do solo mostram que o impacto nas vaz\u00f5es do desmatamento a montante (\u00e1guas acima) destas \u00e1reas protegidas se propaga para dentro do mosaico atrav\u00e9s do rio principal (rio Itacai\u00fanas) e alguns tribut\u00e1rios menores (rios Catet\u00e9 e Aquiri, figura abaixo). Foi observado que eventos clim\u00e1ticos extremos, como os ocasionados por eventos de<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/enos.cptec.inpe.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> El Ni\u00f1o e La Ni\u00f1a<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, alteraram este armazenamento de \u00e1gua no solo e, consequentemente, a vaz\u00e3o dos rios por at\u00e9 seis meses.
