However, inside the dry diagonal there is a mosaic of forests (for example mountain forests and riparian forests). These forests are considered fragments of historical bridges that once connected the Amazonian and Atlantic forests.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Muitos dados f\u00f3sseis e clim\u00e1ticos, at\u00e9 dados de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o e gen\u00e9tica das esp\u00e9cies, revelam que essas florestas foram conectadas no passado por pelo menos tr\u00eas rotas de conex\u00e3o. However, the current data availability, including geographic distribution data and genetic data for several species from different taxonomic groups, would certainly allow us to reevaluate the past use of these connections based on a much larger set of species.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Assessing the connections between Amazonia and the Atlantic Forest will give us insights about the past changes in forest cover and the processes behind the current complexity of these forests. Such insights can be useful in forecasts about future changes in forest cover and may thus provide an important tool for forest biodiversity conservation and maintenance.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 To assist future studies on historical connections between Amazonian and Atlantic forests, we conducted a study that compiled data on potential mammal species for investigating the historical connections between Amazonia and the Atlantic Forest and which may serve as a basis for future studies. We compiled geographic distribution data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/\">IUCN<\/a>) Red List of Threatened Species database, which provides various data for species  worldwide. We also compiled all the genetic data that was available for these species in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/genbank\/\">G<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">enbank<\/span><\/a>database, one of the largest public databases of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biometrix.com.br\/sequenciamento-dna-desvendando-codigo-da-vida\/\">genetic sequences<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4349c5e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4349c5e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mam\u00edferos que revelam conex\u00f5es entre a Amaz\u00f4nia e a Mata Atl\u00e2ntica, incluindo esp\u00e9cies amea\u00e7adas de extin\u00e7\u00e3o. This highlights their potential for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pensamentoevolutivo.com\/post\/filogeografia-a-import%C3%A2ncia-de-estudar-a-distribui%C3%A7%C3%A3o-geogr%C3%A1fica-atual-das-linhagens-evolutivas\">phylogeographic<\/a> studies to investigate the past connections between Amazonia and the Atlantic Forest. In our publication we provide a full list of the compiled data and an access link to the database containing the filtered genetic information for each species. Hence, we hope to facilitate and promote future studies on these connections based on mammal species.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Among the different mammalian groups, armadillos and bats showed the greatest availability of data as they are of public health interest. However, also the other mammalian groups showed a high availability of genetic data and consequently a high potential for further studies focusing on the past connections between Amazonia and the Atlantic Forest.
