Juntos, estes biomas perderam mais de <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mapbiomas.org\/products?cama_set_language=pt-BR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>70 milh\u00f5es de hectares de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Com todo esse desmatamento foi perdida parte dos in\u00fameros servi\u00e7os que esses biomas podem prover \u00e0 popula\u00e7\u00e3o, \u00e0 economia, e \u00e0 biodiversidade. Dentre estes est\u00e1 a capacidade da vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa de regular o clima no seu entorno, fundamental para a agricultura e a pecu\u00e1ria da regi\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O valor total dos benef\u00edcios proporcionados por esses biomas \u00e9 inestim\u00e1vel. Entretanto, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel estimar o valor de servi\u00e7os espec\u00edficos proporcionados a alguns setores da economia. Em um trabalho publicado na revista cient\u00edfica <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0305750X21001972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Development<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, n\u00f3s estimamos os benef\u00edcios que o controle de desmatamento pode prover \u00e0 economia da soja no Brasil, levando em considera\u00e7\u00e3o o papel que a vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa tem em regular a temperatura\u00a0 em seu entorno, e o efeito prejudicial que a\u00a0 exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao calor extremo causa \u00e0 produtividade agr\u00edcola.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Como a perda de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa nestes biomas afeta a temperatura? E como isso afeta a agricultura?\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O clima de uma regi\u00e3o depende muito da cobertura do solo. As \u00e1rvores na Amaz\u00f4nia e do Cerrado tendem a aproveitar a \u00e1gua no solo, e redirecionar os ventos que passam sobre elas. O resultado \u00e9 um clima menos quente, mais \u00famido e mais favor\u00e1vel \u00e0 forma\u00e7\u00e3o de nuvens de chuva. Quando essa vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa \u00e9 substitu\u00edda por outros tipos de cobertura do solo como pastos e agricultura, a altera\u00e7\u00e3o dessas propriedades afeta o clima na \u00e1rea desmatada e em v\u00e1rios quil\u00f4metros no seu entorno.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para se ter uma ideia desse impacto, pesquisadores descobriram que a temperatura m\u00e1xima \u00e9 em m\u00e9dia <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/351\/6273\/600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2 \u2103 mais quente em uma \u00e1rea desmatada<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> do que em uma \u00e1rea completamente florestada em regi\u00f5es tropicais. Temperaturas muito altas causam, entre outros efeitos, a perda excessiva de \u00e1gua, a acelera\u00e7\u00e3o do ciclo da cultura, e podem prejudicar a flora\u00e7\u00e3o. No caso da soja &#8211; assim como de outras plantas &#8211; cada hora de exposi\u00e7\u00e3o a temperaturas acima de um valor cr\u00edtico (por volta de 30 \u00b0C) est\u00e1 associada a perdas de produtividade. Na regi\u00e3o do Cerrado, a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao calor extremo causada por um aumento de 1 \u00b0C na temperatura m\u00e1xima leva a uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o de 8 a 14% na produtividade da soja. Isso vale para varia\u00e7\u00f5es na temperatura que ocorrem naturalmente entre os anos, mas tamb\u00e9m para o aquecimento causado tanto pelo desmatamento quanto pelas mudan\u00e7as globais que v\u00eam ocorrendo no clima.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0305750X21001972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>No nosso estudo,<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> combinamos as melhores estimativas que temos desses dois efeitos para estimar o valor que a floresta em p\u00e9 tem para a agricultura de soja no seu entorno. Examinamos primeiro o efeito do desmatamento na temperatura e na exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao calor extremo, em seguida o efeito do aumento dessa exposi\u00e7\u00e3o na produtividade da soja, e finalmente o impacto financeiro devido \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as da produtividade da soja. Estas an\u00e1lises foram feitas para o desmatamento observado no passado (1985-2012), e para proje\u00e7\u00f5es de desmatamento futuro (2020-2050).<\/span><\/p><p><b>E o que n\u00f3s encontramos?<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As duas an\u00e1lises nos d\u00e3o respostas diferentes; a an\u00e1lise do passado identifica \u201coportunidades perdidas\u201d, ou o potencial de produ\u00e7\u00e3o de soja que foi perdido devido ao aumento na exposi\u00e7\u00e3o de calor extremo pelo desmatamento que j\u00e1 ocorreu. Os resultados dos cen\u00e1rios futuros, entretanto, demonstram o potencial de produ\u00e7\u00e3o que temos pela frente se protegermos estes biomas.
