As paisagens de corpos d&#8217;\u00e1gua na regi\u00e3o amaz\u00f4nica exibem fisionomias e microhabitats que variam de lagos e igarap\u00e9s (cursos d\u2019\u00e1gua estreitos e de baixa profundidade, veja mais aqui) a regi\u00f5es estuarinas, oferecendo e exercendo diferentes pap\u00e9is nas din\u00e2micas ecol\u00f3gicas destes ecossistemas. A diversidade de esp\u00e9cies de peixes nesta bacia \u00e9 incompar\u00e1vel e curiosa, considerando que a hist\u00f3ria evolutiva deste grupo \u00e9 mais antiga que as condi\u00e7\u00f5es geol\u00f3gicas atuais da bacia Amaz\u00f4nica (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/scitable\/knowledge\/library\/the-geography-and-ecology-of-diversification-in-15667887\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see more here<\/a><\/span>).<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 O conhecimento sobre a riqueza das esp\u00e9cies de peixes amaz\u00f4nicos vem sendo paulatinamente acumulado ao longo dos anos, atrav\u00e9s de estudos direcionados a grupos de peixes, com diferentes perguntas e enfoques. Muitas das estruturas podem ser vis\u00edveis a olho nu, ou podem ser visualizadas com o aux\u00edlio de lupas ou microsc\u00f3pios para a observa\u00e7\u00e3o e an\u00e1lise detalhada da forma, distribui\u00e7\u00e3o, e desenvolvimento dessas caracter\u00edsticas. Para o acesso a essa incr\u00edvel diversidade, pesquisadores podem realizar expedi\u00e7\u00f5es cient\u00edficas para coleta de amostras com as devidas licen\u00e7as expedidas por \u00f3rg\u00e3o ambiental, e atrav\u00e9s do contato com curadores para empr\u00e9stimos e visitas a Cole\u00e7\u00f5es Cient\u00edficas em Museus e\/ou Institui\u00e7\u00f5es de Ensino que abriguem o material de interesse.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A realiza\u00e7\u00e3o desta pesquisa contou com a disponibiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de mais de 150 lotes (acervo de um ou mais exemplares de uma mesma esp\u00e9cie, separados por m\u00e9todo de captura, evento de coleta, data, localidade). A disponibiliza\u00e7\u00e3o destes lotes contendo amostras de popula\u00e7\u00f5es de peixes foram provenientes de 15 Cole\u00e7\u00f5es Cient\u00edficas nacionais e internacionais. Dentre os principais resultados foi poss\u00edvel estimar que o compartilhamento de caracter\u00edsticas a partir de um ancestral comum caracterizou novidades evolutivas em diferentes momentos na hist\u00f3ria deste grupo de peixes. Al\u00e9m disso, atrav\u00e9s de an\u00e1lises da morfologia externa e interna, e baseados em material comparativo com uma extensa revis\u00e3o taxon\u00f4mica, tamb\u00e9m foi poss\u00edvel atestar a descoberta de uma nova esp\u00e9cie de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o limitada na Amaz\u00f4nia Peruana, e a revalida\u00e7\u00e3o de uma esp\u00e9cie do g\u00eanero <i>Aphyocharax <\/i>com ampla distribui\u00e7\u00e3o na bacia Amaz\u00f4nica. Ao desvendar a exist\u00eancia de novas esp\u00e9cies podemos aos poucos contar parte da hist\u00f3ria da vida e do nosso planeta. Preenchendo esse grande quebra-cabe\u00e7a estamos, atrav\u00e9s do conhecimento, contribuindo para a preserva\u00e7\u00e3o dos organismos e seus ambientes.
